The bombilla – Spanish for "little pump" – is both a drinking straw and a filter. The fine mesh at the bottom holds back the mate leaves, so you only drink the pure infusion. It has been an integral part ofyerba mate culture in South America for centuries.
Tip: The bombilla also works for other herbal infusions.

Bombilla – What is it?
In Spanish it's called "bombilla," in Portuguese "bomba"—that's the name for the traditional drinking straw for yerba mate . At the bottom is a filter that holds back the mate leaves while you drink. The fine mesh reliably filters out all particles—for pure enjoyment.
Classic, short or round – find your bombilla, your companion for many years.
Why do people drink mate with a bombilla?
Mate is drunk differently: The mate leaves remain in the mate cup the entire time, unlike with tea. But don't worry – your infusion won't be too strong, and the leaves stay in the cup thanks to the bombilla (drum). Keep refilling, infusion after infusion, until the leaves are all used up.
So simple, so ingenious: Rinse briefly after drinking, and you're done. No filter, no waste – reusable again and again.
A stainless steel bombilla lasts a lifetime. It's as essential to mate as water is to yerba mate.
Frequently asked questions about the bombilla

Because the mate leaves remain in the mate cup the entire time and are repeatedly steeped. The bombilla filters the leaves as you drink, so you don't ingest them – allowing you to enjoy infusion after infusion.
Yes, you can use a tea strainer or whatever you have at home. But the best aroma only develops when the leaves float freely in the water – that's exactly what the bombilla allows. Want to drink without a bombilla? Then try our French press for a pure, aromatic infusion.
We offer only stainless steel bombillas – why? Rustproof, tasteless, food-safe, dishwasher-safe, and nickel-free. For a lifetime.
Why not a different material? Alpaca (nickel silver) contains nickel – not ideal for allergy sufferers – and discolors over time. Tinplate rusts and bends easily. Aluminum is soft and can leach substances from hot drinks – not ideal for daily use.
